Frequently Asked Questions

 What kinds of parishes
are using Landings
?
    All kinds!
  • Campus Ministry: St. Thomas Aquinas Parish at The University of Colorado at Boulder has run four Landings sessions since January 1997.
  • Rural Parishes: Sister Pat Froning from the Diocese of Owensboro, KY, and Father Bill Deering of the Diocese of Evansville, IN, have recently trained more than 10 small parishes.
  • Large suburban parishes: In January, more parishes in the Chicago area signed on.
How are other parishes
recruiting for Landings?

  • Many parishes display banners or signs in front of the Church and other public places.
  • A Returnee spoke briefly before each Christmas Mass at St. Thomas More, Austin, Texas.
  • A parish showed the 7-minute Landings video after each Mass in Gainesville, Florida.
  • Landings members sponsor parish events like a pancake breakfast. This raises money for the retreat and keeps Landings visible to the community.
  • Many times it is the enthusiasm of the people who have experienced Landings that encourages parishioners to extend invitations to possible Returnee.

What is Connections Connections is a new part of our Landings portfolio. It uses the successful Landings format for small groups who want to support one another around a spirituality of work. We have had many requests for a follow-up to Landings and initially called this effort Landings II.

In April 1997, we piloted the new program for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. It was received with great enthusiasm and the admonition not to call it Landings II. They suggested we open the process to everyone rather than limit it to Landings graduates.

Connections is appropriate for active parishioners, non-Catholic spouses, and inactive Catholics who want to work on how they live out what they believe.

A Connections Training Workshop is a wonderful way for a diocese to introduce a new ministry, as well as refresh the unique principles of Landings for parishes already using the process.
